Bronze Success for Thomas
Year 5 St Francis pupil, Thomas recently took park in his first Southern Regional Championships against the best U10 fencers from Wiltshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire having only had one other competition behind him.
Coach Neil Bromley reports:
"In the pool rounds Thomas had a clean sheet of victories against four other competitors, conceding 6 hits whilst scoring 18. When the overall seeding was complete, this placed him second overall. In the quarter finals he fought a very cagey opponent who traded hit for with him until Thomas was able to pull away at the end winning 10-8. With a medal guaranteed he came up against the number three seed who had a great deal more experience. Thomas never gave up and fought doggedly for each hit and gave his opponent a real workout. Thomas said “I had a great day’s fencing though I was rather tired by the end. I’m really pleased to make it to the semi-final in just my second competition. Although I didn’t get to the final this time, I’m still pleased with a bronze medal.
Thomas has been putting in a lot of hard work during his lessons. He concentrates in class and quickly applies - I am hugely proud of his success and look forward to him participating in more competitions in future.
