2024 READING ALOUD FINALS
Bonfire Night saw the best of our year four to eight readers light their own vocal fireworks to dazzle the assembled families, friends and staff in Haybrook Hall this November 5th. The 2024 Reading Aloud Finals was perhaps the best competition in my memory. Each pupil brought their passion for reading and the text alive as they performed pieces that ranged from the dramatic bleakness of Ted Hughes’s ‘November’ poem to the everlasting comedic appeal of Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’.
Our invited adjudicator - Andrew Brown, Head of English at Dauntsey’s - had the tricky task of judging the finalists. As he commented, this was incredibly difficult: all had clearly committed time, effort and - and this is what particularly stood out to him - great thought to their performance, ensuring that their audience was always engaged and thoroughly entertained. However, a final judgement had to be made. All were highly commended for making it to the final four in their category, having been selected from all their peers; our special congratulations went to the winners, who were awarded their book token prizes and Winners Certificates by Mr.Lee in Friday’s Celebration Assembly.
