Year 3’s Fascinating Visit to Stonehenge

Last week, our Year 3 pupils embarked on an incredible educational adventure with a visit to Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. Accompanied by their class teacher, Miss Davey, Teaching Assistant, Mrs Theobold, and Headmaster, Mr Lee, the children received the full Stonehenge experience, making this trip both enjoyable and highly informative.

The day began with a guided tour of the site, where pupils had the opportunity to explore the ancient stone circle up close and marvel at the scale of the structure. They learned about the different theories behind the construction of Stonehenge, from its potential use as an astronomical calendar to the mysteries surrounding the transportation of its massive stones. The guides shared fascinating stories and helped bring history to life, making it an unforgettable learning experience.

After the tour, the pupils enjoyed hands-on activities in the visitor centre’s educational workshop. Here, they discovered what life was like for the people who built Stonehenge over 4,000 years ago. They learned about the tools and techniques used in the Neolithic period, examined artefacts, and even tried their hand at building mini stone circles with model stones. It was a wonderful way for them to connect with history in a practical and engaging manner.

Miss Davey, Mrs Theobold, and Mr Lee were proud to see the curiosity and enthusiasm displayed by the Year 3 students throughout the day. They were eager to ask questions and discuss the mysteries of this ancient monument. The children also enjoyed a picturesque walk through the surrounding landscape, taking in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside that has been home to Stonehenge for millennia.

The trip was not just an opportunity to learn outside the classroom but also to bond with classmates while experiencing a piece of world heritage right on our doorstep. By the end of the day, our Year 3 pupils left with new knowledge, lots of inspiration, and a greater appreciation for history.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at Stonehenge for providing such an enriching and engaging experience for our pupils. It was a day that will be remembered for a long time, and we hope it has sparked a lifelong interest in history and archaeology among our young learners!
