Katy Cawkwell Visits St Francis
To mark National Storytelling Week Pewsey-based Prep School St Francis invited renowned Storyteller Katy Cawkwell in to tell tales to pupils in the Pre-Prep and Year 3.
Devon-based Katy travelled to the independent Wiltshire School as part of the National Literacy Trust’s initiative to celebrate the power of telling stories.
Katy told pupils a mixture of fables, myths and legends, and it wasn’t just the pupils who were captivated!
Head of Pre-Prep at St Francis, Mandy Pilgrim enthused “I knew just how good Katy was when our Head of Marketing “popped in” to take some pictures, and ended up sitting down and staying for the whole story. Katy’s use of props, her body and the way she changes (sometimes subtly) her voice for the characters really draws you in, and we had pupils asking if volcanos were really curled up dragons after one session – such was her believability!”
As part of National Storytelling Week pupils at St Francis enjoyed a variety of different activities, all focussed on the transformative power that sharing stories can bring, even spending a Friday evening at the Prep School whilst the Pre-Prep department read them bedtime stories.
